On the Path to Aging Well

One of the premises behind Traditional Chinese medicine is that the physician's main job was to keep the patient healthy, through ongoing health maintenance which included diet, supplements in the way of herbs and again food. Acupuncture and massage were also used to keep the boy in tune.

According to the Yellow Emperors Classic on Internal Medicine, published approximately 4000 years ago, "To treat disease after it has already occurred is akin to closing the stable door after the horse has bolted, digging a well after one has become thirsty, or making weapons after the war has already begun."

A similar approach should be taken to aging; as we age it becomes more important that we ensure that our body's are well looked after through proper diet, exercise and nutrition.

The list does not end there, however, as technology has afforded us a wide array of treatment modalities that were not available a few year ago. These include synthesized hormones to computer simulations that exercise ones cognitive functions.

Today America is facing a health crisis as more and more people step over the line of just being fat to being obese. No matter what your age, now is the time to take action and realize that the decisions you make from today on will impact the way you age. The quality of your life is in your hands.
